Tree of Light Switch-on
On the 6th of December, the traditional Tree of Light switch on took place in Workman Gardens. Over the last twenty years, this event has become a permanent fixture in the Evesham Christmas calendar. The iconic tree at Workman Bridge is enlightening the area once again.
MC and Rotarian Patrick Staines orchestrated the whole event skilfully. The Rev Dr Edward Pillar, from the Evesham Baptist Church, started with a prayer. This was followed by a short speech from Hein van der Steen, President of the Rotary Club of Evesham, thanking the community for their continued support. District Governor Joan Goldsmith talked about the importance of local Rotary clubs and the role Rotary plays worldwide. It was then time for Evesham mayor Mark Goodge to do the countdown. A highlight of the event was the performance of the Prince Henry's choir, with a few songs and sing-alongs.
The event went very well with short speeches, good singing, hot (non-alcoholic) punch and mince pies, and it did not rain! Members of the Rotary Club of Evesham, with support from our Rotary Interact, delivered as we have come to expect.
