Dementia Friends
At the Club's latest meeting Jo Hughes from the Alzheimer's Society and Sue Amor from Dementia Action Alliance spoke to members about dementia and its impact on people's lives. Jo mentioned that there are around 800,000 known people living with Dementia in the UK & around 9,000 in the Worcestershire area. Sue Amor then ran a practical session to help us all understand better the issues & problems faced by those living with Dementia & Alzheimer’s
They left us with five key messages: 1. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing 2. Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain 3. Dementia is not just about losing your memory - it can affect thinking, communicating and doing everyday tasks 4. it's possible to live well with dementia and 5. There's more to a person than the dementia.
Several members are now becoming a ‘Dementia Friend’ and are joining the UK’s biggest initiative to change the way people think, act and talk about Dementia.
