Presidents update:
De Montford School have qualified for the finals of the Robotics competition to be held in Kentucky. USA. Evesham Rotary has decided to make a donation towards the cost of them representing Evesham in Kentucky.
I have also agreed to give them 6 jars of the jam supplied by District Governor Richard Purdon as they would like to help raise money for End Polio Now. Members are being encouraged to buy jars at today’s meeting with a view for the emptied jars being returned with loose change in them for this most worthy of causes particularly in the area of North West Pakistan.
Social/club events:
Update from Oliver regarding forthcoming Torquay Conference. Attendees can collect welcome packs/passes from 11am on the Friday of the event from the Riviera Centre. All accommodation for the Evesham group will be in the Grand Hotel. Parking is available at the Hotel as well as across the road. Patrick will sent out more details around his event at the conference this week.
Final skittles match was a real success thanks to the skills of John Mansfield & Joyce.!
Foundation:
Joyce thanked all of those concerned who helped to make the event a success.
Speakers: PHH Interact Club
Membership of the club is now in excess of 60 with a regular turn out of 28-30 for each meeting.
As well as the members there are also a small band of attendees who come along to help out. (Maybe this will become a new form of Friends of Interact?)
There focus this year is on becoming more involved & closer to the charities that they support.
Their website shows a large amount of material from their fundraising efforts but here are a few current examples:
Sponsoring a Guide Dog – The cost of sponsoring a Guide Dog together with its training & equipment is £1,500. They raised £1,200 by charging each pupil £1 for dress down day & the remainder came from younger pupils in the school who had their own fundraising.
They recently had an open day to welcome their sponsored dog called PRINCE! Princes reward was free cakes!
Fashion Show – In aid of St. Richards Hospice. 70,80,90 & Festival themes. Raised £430 after costs.
Working with a local community & school in Tanzanire – Raising money for help & awareness of exploited children in the area through involvement with the Pipi house project.
This year’s charities: St. Richard’s Hospice, Working World, Medicines Sans Frontiers(refugees). The theme that they want to explore here is a Science theme.
